Funding announcement: PCORI Seeks Applicants to Help Build National Health Data Infrastructure to Support CER

The post below comes from our friends at the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).

Opportunities are now open to apply for a share of more than $68 million committed by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to support the development of a new National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network (NCRN).

In April, PCORI announced that it would provide up to $56 million to support the creation or expansion of up to eight new or existing Clinical Data Research Networks (CDRNs), which will develop the capacity to conduct comparative effectiveness research (CER) using data from clinical practice in large, defined populations. PCORI also will fund up to $12 million to support up to 18 new or existing Patient-Powered Research Networks (PPRNs) organized by groups of patients interested in participating in clinical research. Working individually and together, PCORI believes these networks can unite patients, researchers, and healthcare systems and create a much-needed national data infrastructure to advance patient-centered CER.

In June, PCORI issued a request for proposals to establish a Coordinating Center that will provide technical and logistical support to the CDRNs and PPRNs and other components of the larger NCRN. The Coordinating Center will play a critical role in fostering communication and coordination among the awardees and disseminating best practices and will support program evaluation, among other responsibilities.

Want to know more? PCORI’s Executive Director Joe Selby describes the institute’s vision for the NCRN in this blog post. Complete funding announcements for the CDRNs and PPRNs and the request for proposals for the Coordinating Center are available in PCORI’s website. Required letters of intent from CDRN and PPRN applicants are due June 19 and applications are due Sept. 27. The application deadline for the Coordinating Center is July 31.
